LOS ANGELES (CNS) - An overloaded electricity distribution station in South Los Angeles was being blamed for intermittent power outages that affected about 6,500 Department of Water and Power customers this afternoon.

The problem arose around 3:15 p.m., said Terry Schneider of the DWP.

She said the station experienced some equipment failures this morning and as crews worked on repairs, high temperatures and the resulting energy demand created ``an overloaded condition at that distributing station.''

``Our crews are doing all they can to repair the affected equipment and get everyone restored as soon as possible,'' she said.

Intermittent blackouts were expected to last until about 10 p.m., she said.
