The world's first prescription-only smartphone app goes into wide release this year.
You can download BlueStar onto your smartphone, tablet or computer, but you have to have a prescription to use it.
A small number of people already have it, but this year a lot of insurance plans will be extending coverage to accept the app. It's designed to help people with type 2 diabetes by reminding them when it's time to check blood sugar levels, helping them control fluctuations and offering advice.
The FDA approved it in 2010. The cost is expected to creep above a hundred dollars a month but part of that will be covered by insurance.
