LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say they do not believe foul play was involved in the case of a missing federal agent who is the subject of a search in Los Angeles.

The California Highway Patrol closed a freeway lane late Wednesday as part of the search for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer.

Television news cameras show LAPD officers checking an abandoned car on the side of U.S. 101 by the

Silverlake Boulevard
exit and looking in nearby bushes.

However, ICE said in a statement that authorities believed the agent was picked up by a colleague after experiencing vehicle problems.

Los Angeles police investigators were continuing to treat the matter as a missing person case until they reach the officer and confirm his whereabouts.
