Some people in Los Angeles believe a Jewish ritual involving chickens is animal cruelty.

Kaparot is a ceremony where someone symbolically transfers their sins into a chicken. A chicken is killed during the ritual.

Avi Horn lives a block from where ceremonies have been held all week in Pico.

“It’s violent. It’s very sad.”

Horn is Jewish and says he purges his sins by donating money. This man who manages a Kaparot site at Pico and Shenandoah says this ritual is a tradition he grew up with.

“I think what we’re doing is right because it’s our tradition going back 2,000, 3,000 years.”

Protestors have been showing up nightly. Kaparot ceremonies end tomorrow morning.
