Democratic Assemblyman Mike Gatto says he wants a closer look at weapons turned in at gun buyback events. Gatto says he wrote AB-2662 to force law enforcement agencies to trace modern guns given up in exchange for gift cards.

"I think it’s safe to assume that if the police determine that a weapon was stolen that they can take steps to return it to the rightful owner," says Gatto.

"And if they find out that a weapon was indeed a murder weapon, that they might want to question the person who dropped it off."

Gatto says it isn't fair to allow a possible criminal the chance to get rid of a weapon by turning it in with no questions asked.
