Most people would rather buy a self-driving car from Google than from Ford.

Research based on a combination of surveys shows that Google is the brand most associated with autonomous driving, with a majority of people preferring to buy driverless cars from tech companies rather than automakers.

And when it comes to the car companies, the research shows a bias against American-made driverless cars and a preference for Japanese makes, despite the survey-takers being 100 percent American.

Experts say driverless upgrades to new cars should be ready by 2019, with built-in and after-market self-driving software by 2025.
