A "Living Drug" Is Beating Leukemia

A "living drug" is beating leukemia.

This new approach to killing cancer cells has beaten one form of the disease in 88 percent of adults.

A new report signals a big breakthrough in the field of cancer immunotherapy. The study involved 16 people with adult B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, some 14 hundred people die of A.L.L. every year in the US, and patients often become resistant to chemotherapy and relapse.

The new treatment involves removing some of the patients T-cells and changing them with a gene to make them recognize a cancer protein in order to attack it.
